There are A LOT of false friends between English and Spanish… here we are with another one!
Today we’ve chosen the adjective largo, which means long. According to the Real Academia Española largo has different meanings:

- an object that has length
- wide/extensive — Tiene una larga experiencia en el área educativa [He/She has extensive experience in the educational area]
- a long period of time — Después de cinco largos años, has aparecido [You’ve shown up after five years]
- along/throughout — A lo largo del pueblo [Throughout the town]
Largo shouldn’t be confused with the adjective large, which is translated as grande:

- España es un país grande y bonito [Spain is a large and beautiful country]
