¿LIBRERÍA o BIBLIOTECA?

Here we are with another false friend!

Today we’ll discuss the Spanish word librería, which comes from libro (from Latin liber: the film between the bark and the wood of the tree, used to write).

Librería means bookstore:

    • Fui a la librería para conseguir la firma del autor de esta novela.
    • [I went to the bookstore to get the signature of the author of this novel.]

Librería should not be confused with the word library, which means biblioteca in Spanish:

    • Jorge va a estudiar a la biblioteca de la escuela.
    • [Jorge goes to study at the school library.]
